After reading this fabulous blog, I was inspired to start my own. I have a couple of other blogs, and contribute to a few more, but this one will be mainly about Choice. Given the fact that I believe in choice, I've chosen to remain anonymous on this one. I want to be free to say that I work at Planned Parenthood and talk about the causes I support and not have to fear that a pro-life wacko is going to google my name or affiliate and hunt me down. It's sad, but true. For the same reason, my husband doesn't want me to put Pro-Choice stickers on my car, Pro-choice signs in our yard, etc. He thinks Pro-life zealots are crazier than I do. I didn't think it was possible.
The name of this blog, Safe, Legal & Rare, is one of my favorite mantras. In an ideal world, where every child is taught health and sex education in school, and every person (regardless of income or background) has access to affordable health care, abortion would truly be Safe, Legal and Rare. I'm the most Pro-Choice person you'll ever meet (no restrictions, baby!), but I honestly believe that abortion should be rare. Why can't the pro-lifers seem to understand no one thinks abortion is a good thing? No one purposely gets pregnant so she can have an abortion.
Not one of us takes the issue lightly.
Not one of us should.
